Scraptastic Design Team – Happy Mermaids

Hello! I’m back with another Scraptastic Design Team layout featuring the May 2016 Cake by the Ocean Kit!

May 2016 Cake by the Ocean Kit by Scraptastic Club

For this week’s layout, I teamed up with Alex, a fellow design team member, and we used this as our inspiration piece:

And here’s my take with a different twist!

IMG_4042

IMG_4044

Last week I was involved in a very active fairy tale in which  my daughter and I pretended to be princess mermaid sisters. According to my little moppet, we are getting ready to attend a party. And since we were attending this party during the winter time, it was customary for us to wear our princess tiaras on the outside of our winter hats.

It’s a thing. 🙂

Using the exclusive Scraptastic stencil and my cutting knife, I cut the stenciled image to create a raised background. I backed the raised circles with pink patterned paper – the color is subtle and very much visible when looking closely at the layout. I created layers around the photos using an exclusive Scraptastic tag and die cuts from the Paige Evans Fancy Free Collection (Pink Paislee). I finished the layout with a cute title using the die cut word “happy” from the same collection in addition to velum  letter stickers by Pink Fresh Studio.

  • Patterned Paper – “Flower Strings” from the Felicity Collection by Pink Fresh Studio
  • Exclusive Stencil – Scraptastic
  • Die Cuts – Fancy Free Collection by Paige Evans (Pink Paislee)
  • Sticker Arrow and Plus Signs – Scraptastic Exclusive
  • Heidi Swapp Roller Date Stamp

I Quit My Job…To Pursue My Dreams!

I quit my job.

Even typing those words makes me both giddy and scared! (There must be a word for being both giddy and scared.) I walked into my office and tendered by two weeks notice on Monday. Sadly, my departure will not be met with a “going away, we will miss you party”. I will not be leaving under the best of circumstances. To be honest, it doesn’t matter. Deep down inside I know that I was meant to do so much more. I had to be willing to close this chapter in my life, take a risk, and jump in the pool head first.

So I jumped.

IMG_3902

I cleaned out my office the day I tendered my notice.

Toward the end of 2015, I began to feel lost. The drudgery of getting up at 6:00 am (barely) and going through my daily routine, driving almost an hour to work, sitting at a desk under florescent lighting, traveling from one work commitment to another,  driving almost an hour home, and crashing on the couch was draining my will to live. I only had pockets of time to explore my interests, to relax and live my life. And this schedule has been on repeat for several years over the course of my adult life: work, eat, sleep…play (sometimes).

IMG_3913

IMG_3961

While I enjoyed my current job (to an extent), I am no longer fulfilled. Honestly, I never have been…in any job I’ve held over the years. I’ve worked in retail management, human resources, academia and the non-profit world. There is nothing that I have done professionally that truly speaks to my heart. Nothing. I’m on a hamster wheel that is spinning and spinning…I am going no where. Stagnant, still, comfortable, and miserable.

Something had to change.

IMG_3866

I hate traffic.

But one thing I knew for sure…I wanted to work for myself. In fact, I wanted to figure out how I could take my hobby of scrapbooking and memory keeping and turn it into a profitable business. Over the past year I have grown my social media presence through YouTube, Facebook and my blog. I began to wonder if there was space for me in this industry. I began to brainstorm my options. Then it hit me! I am an expert trainer. Why not marry my training skills with my hobby; find a way to develop classes that people enjoy and can relate to.  And then more ideas came to mind: host crops, retreats, presenting at crafting conferences, maybe design my own line! The possibilities are endless!!!!!

But, where do I start?

IMG_3907

This bracelet arrived the day I quit my job.

One day while looking for inspiration via YouTube, you know, “quit your job and live your life” videos, I stumbled upon a few life coaches who work specifically with creatives. I had no clue they existed! I quickly found their blogs and podcasts and for months I started to educate myself on developing a creative business. I learned new terms like “creative entrepreneur” and “solo entrepreneur”. I listened to the stories of creatives who left their traditional jobs, took a risk, and started their own businesses. I began to research other creatives in the scrapbooking industry – what do they do and how did they get to where they are today. I became so excited! Finally, my calling (which had been there all along) was too strong to ignore.

I had to do something…FAST!

IMG_3864

The podcast that saved my life!

My spouse and I always knew that we wanted to make changes to our lifestyle that allowed for more freedom and flexibility. If I left my job and started a business, this dream would be reality! So, I set a date: December 16, 2016 would be my last day. Then things changed and now my last day is May 31st.

VICKI…OUT! (Drops mic)

I knew that before I jumped ship, I had to make a plan. I made a vision board. I started working with a life coach (and friend) to help me sort out my thoughts, worries, and fears. I created a online class concept (actually, a list of 30+ classes), researched a platform to host my classes, and spent some time figuring out possible sales projections (simple math, let’s not complicate things).

This WAS going to happen.

IMG_3969

Thank you Zera Coffee Co…my spot to think and birth Victoria Marie.

So, back to May 16th, I tendered my resignation and never felt happier! I gave myself permission to choose my goals and dreams over working for someone else. It’s not in my DNA to answer to a “boss”. I’m the boss…always have been. It feels so good to take control of my life! I am not in the “best” financial position and the stars are not perfectly aligned…but that’s okay. As my life coach tells me, “You are not going to starve or become poor. You will be okay.” (I love you Laurie Johnson!)

I am going to be more than okay…I am going to be GREAT! Victoria Marie will officially launch on June 1, 2016!

IMG_3991

The Official Victoria Marie Headquarters…creativity abounds!

So, what’s coming down the pike:

  • Online/in-person scrapbooking classes!
  • MORE YouTube process videos and tutorials!
  • Continued involvement on scrapbooking design teams
  • Scrapbooking crops and retreats!
  • Digital products such as e-books and printable scrapbooking planning sheets!
  • And much more!!!!!

I am excited for this new journey! The path to success is not always easy, but I’m ready to take the risk!

There is a saying that goes, “Entrepreneurs are the only people who will work 80 hours a week for themselves to avoid working 40 hours a week for someone else.”

Truer words could not have been spoken.

Thanks for joining me on this journey!

Let’s do this!

Here’s the sketch and my layout:

And here’s my layout:

IMG_1855

For this layout, I used the remaining bits of my March Scraptastic Kit. I wanted to follow the sketch pretty closely while making some minor adjustments. This isn’t the best layout I’ve made, but the memory is captured and that is the most important thing! This layout features my mom and daughter reading a book called “How to Babysit a Grandma”. These two are as thick as thieves!

Grandma loves spending time with her angel baby!

IMG_1854_2

IMG_1853

For this layout I used:

  • Blue grid pattern paper – Scraptastic Kit Club Exclusive
  • Pattern paper from the Shimelle Star Shine Collection by American Crafts
  • Transparency sticker by Heidi Swap
  • Die cut stickers by Amy Tangerine
  • Font Stickers by Amy Tangerine – Finders Keepers (Thickers)
  • Mini Market Alphas by October Afternoon
  • Enamel Shapes by American Crafts

NSD 2016 Scrap Gals Facebook Group Crop!

Among my many NSD activities, I am participating in the Scrap Gals Facebook Group Crop! The theme of my challenge is Mixed Media for Mortals – using mixed media products on a layout!

IMG_1804

Here’s what I created:

IMG_3573

IMG_3577

Using textured white card stock for my base, I used a combination of water colors and acrylic paints. Next, I used a stencil and modeling paste to create a bit of dimension. To that I sprinkled a bit of mist around the page and finished with stamping the words “fun, fun, fun” around the photo and layers.

IMG_3578

The result…awesomeness!

IMG_3579

Here’s what I used:

  • White textured card stock – The Paper Studio
  • Pattern Papers – Kaiser Craft #Me Collection
  • Die Cuts – Kaiser Craft #Me Collection
  • Die Cut Stickers – Kaiser Craft #Me Collection
  • Tassel – The Paper Studio Flea Market Fancy Collection
  • Gold Binder Clip – The Paper Studio Flea Market Fancy Collection
  • Rub Ons (Camera and plus signs) – Maggie Holmes by Crate Paper
  • Rub Ons (flower) – On Trend by My Mind’s Eye
  • Roller Stamp – Amy Tangerine

Scrapbook Mini Haul – Hobby Lobby!

In March I celebrated my 35th birthday! Yay me! Not too long after my birthday, I received a gift card from my in-laws….$50.00 to spend as I wish at Hobby Lobby! I spent every last dime! Here’s what I found:

Dina Wakley Heavy Body Acrylic Paint by Ranger

I am obsessed with all things mixed media and recently became a new fan of Dina Wakley. I found these awesome paints on sale for $2.99 (regularly $5.99)!

IMG_1761

The Paper Studio – Flea Market Fancy

The Paper Studio has a new line called Flea Market Fancy! I found some of the cutest and on-trend embellishments. Check out these gold clips!

IMG_1767IMG_1766

I love ephemera and was excited to find these beauties…again from The Paper Studio!

IMG_1765IMG_1764

The Paper Studio – Spare Parts

An then I saw these…more The Paper Studio goodies and they were 50% off! Seriously, the in-store brands are awesome! I grabbed a pack of small binder clips and arrows. I should have bought more!!

IMG_1763

I couldn’t leave behind this beautiful washi tape…also 50% off!

IMG_1762

The Crafters Workshop (TCW) – 6×6 Stencils

I have been stencil obsessed lately…I couldn’t pass these up!

IMG_1768

Check out my haul video on the Victoria Marie YouTube Channel! Thank for stopping by!

Going in Circles!

I am not one to use shapes on my layouts, but lately I’ve seen a lot of scrappers creating beautiful layouts using circles. So, I grabbed my circle punches and went to town…no rhyme or reason! This layout was created using the remaining bits of my March 2016 Drops of Jupiter Kit by Scraptastic Club.

IMG_3312

I love how this turned out!

I absolutely adore Target and it is truly my happy place. I allow myself to get sucked into the Target vortex! I enjoy scrapbooking about the things and places that I love. Target is no exception!

IMG_3311

I used a variety of circle punches in various sizes – small and large. I used a smaller circle punch to create offset circles within the larger circles. I even used a circle punch to cut out my photos!

I layered the circles to create a clustered look and added jute to three of the circles for interest and texture.

IMG_3310

I created the title using foam letter stickers called Thick and Thin by Thickers. To finish off the layout, I sprinkled a few enamel shapes by We R Memory Keepers around the page, added a flare piece and two cloud die cuts (Scraptastic exclusive), and heart stickers from the Amy Tangerine Sticker Book Collection.

Tuesday Morning Mini Scrapbook Haul

I LOVE me some Tuesday Morning! Every now and then I find the most incredible scrappy finds! Here’s what I recently purchased…

IMG_1743_2

I’ve wanted a pack of Slick Writer pens for the longest time. If you aren’t familiar, Slick Writer pens allow you to write on slick surfaces like glossy die cuts and such. Of course I love all things Amy Tangerine so I picked up this cute roller date stamp. And I couldn’t pass up this sweet pack of wood veneers by Studio Calico!

And then the heavens opened up…and these beauties appeared! Gold scissors and mini stapler from the DIY Shop by American Crafts. Now, I do not need another pair of scissors or a mini stapler, but I HAD to take them home with me!! I HAD too…do you hear me!!

IMG_3326

And this chipboard die cut set from Studio Calico…perhaps an older set, but lovely nonetheless.

IMG_3328

I am completely obsessed with art journaling and of course I have to buy the appropriate supplies. I found these stencils for an awesome price!

I think that is it for now! Stop by my YouTube channel for my Tuesday Morning mini haul video! Enjoy!
