New Kit + Stash Tutorial: How to Coordinate Your New Supplies with Your Stash

There is nothing better than buying new scrapbooking supplies! New items can spark lots of creative inspiration, plus…it’s just fun to shop for scrapbooking goodies! Then there is the joy of amassing a sizable scrapbook stash – this takes time and effort (and money). There are some elements that we cannot part with or we refuse to touch because “it’s just too pretty”!

I totally get that!

While it is fun to shop for new stuff and horde favorite items, scrapbookers often seek tips on how to coordinate new scrapbooking supplies with their stash. If you are one of these scrapbookers, look no further! I’ve got you covered.

New + Stash is a new “series” (if you will) on the Victoria Marie YouTube Channel where I will show you how to create kits by pairing your new scrapbooking goodies with your stash.

My formula is very simple:

TIP #1: Find a Starting Point – Your starting point can be inspiration drawn from your newly acquired goodies in terms of style, design, color, etc., or from items in your stash (a particular element or theme).  For example, your starting point could be the pattern papers that you select for your kit or perhaps your embellishments.

TIP #2: Look for Product Inspiration – Figuring out which items to pair together can be a bit challenging. To make the process simple, evaluate your new items and your stash. Look for commonalities between the products such as color, texture, dimension, theme, purpose, style, and design. NOTE: The products that you select do not have to match.  You should focus on coordinating your elements; play around and see what works. This also goes for mixing brands and designers.

Tip #3: Add Missing Items – Once you have found a starting point and product inspiration, you can now begin to round out your product selection based on the items you have available from your new supplies and your stash. For example, maybe your starting point was a grouping of new and old embellishments – you can now consider papers, fibers, textured elements, mixed media supplies and so forth. What are the items that will complete your New + Stash Kit?

The number of elements that you include in your kit is up to you. You might elect to make a full scrapbooking kit or a page kit. The important thing is to focusing on pairing your new items with items from your stash.

Now that you are armed with a few quick tips, I encourage you to take a look at your new products and begin to pair them with items from your stash! Not only are you getting the joy of using new and old scrapbooking supplies, but you will effectively maximize your scrappy supply usage and save money – a total win-win!
