A Quick and Colorful 8.5×11 Inch Layout Using Items From My Stash!

Today on the Victoria Marie YouTube Channel, I’m using items from my stash to create a colorful 8.5×11 inch layout called You’ve Got This! In fact, I used the some of the leftover materials from a recent YouTube livestream to create today’s project.

When possible, I try to make more than one project from the remaining items of a kit or collection. This allows me to get more usage from my materials while creating multiple layouts. To see today’s layout come together, click on the video below or head to the Victoria Marie YouTube Channel.

Also, be sure to scroll down to see photos of today’s project along with a list of products used. NOTE: All of the items featured in this video are from my stash, so availability may vary. Enjoy!

New Year 2023! Craft Studio Cleaning Motivation – Let’s Reset and Refresh!

Happy New Year my friends! I’m back with a fun New Year 2023 Craft Studio Cleaning Motivation video, now available on the Victoria Marie YouTube Channel. Now that 2023 is here, I am taking some time to clean and refresh my craft studio after a very busy holiday season.

I am not productive in a messy space so I make sure to commit a couple of hours to focus on a few cleaning tasks in my craft room to include:

  • Dusting and wiping down surfaces and devices (i.e. cutting machines, printers). It’s amazing how much glitter and dust collects on our surfaces during the holiday season!
  • Storing all of my holiday crafting and card making supplies. I will also purge any supplies that I no longer need.
  • Putting away any remaining scrapbooking kits and collections that I used for contract and freelance projects.
  • Packing up and storing all of my holiday decor – including my craft studio Christmas tree!
  • Vacuuming the carpet and cleaning the baseboards.
  • Cleaning my craft island desktop and shelves.

I share the craft island with my daughter and together, we make sure that our work stations stay cleaned and organized! Truth be told, I cannot start a craft project unless I have a clean surface to work on!

All of my devices are dusted and ready to go! I also use this time to refill my printer ink (if needed), restock my photo paper, and clean my cutting machines and other devices.

I also like to wipe down the front of my craft storage furniture. I sometimes leave inky fingerprints on my furniture when I’m in the process of creating!

I love that all of my supplies and devices have a specific “home” in my craft studio…even my coffee maker! Everything is nice, cleaned, organized, and ready for another year of crafty fun!

Cleaning Motiviation!

If you need a bit of cleaning motivation, check out my latest video, now available on the Victoria Marie YouTube Channel! Let’s make time to refresh and reset our crafty spaces!

EASY Scrapbook Tutorial! Creating Subtle Texture Using a Basic Shape, Cardstock and a Distress Tool!

Today on the Victoria Marie YouTube Channel, we are going to explore a super simple technique that you can do TODAY that will add a subtle touch of texture to your scrapbook layout using a basic shape, cardstock, and a distress tool!

Adding a bit of texture to a scrapbook layout doesn’t have to take away from the composition of the design. For this project, I created a circular element that features textured strips of solid white cardstock. I was going for a subtle monochromatic look with high impact texture for this design.

To begin, I trimmed two circles (7 inches and 7.5 inches) from American Crafts Textured White Cardstock and solid pink cardstock from Felicity Jane using a circle cutter. TIP: You do not need a fancy tool to create circles on your scrapbook layouts! Any circular item can be used to trace a circle for a scrapbook project – a bowl, cup, or a circular container will do the trick!

Next, I trimmed several 1×12 inch strips of solid white textured cardstock and distressed one edge of each strip with a Tim Holtz Distress Tool. Of course, you can use scissors to create distressed edges as well.

To finish this element, I layered strips of the distressed paper on the 7 inch circle and trimmed the excess paper. The 7 inch circle was then adhered to the 7.5 inch pink circle – this provided a bit of framing to the 7 inch circle and allows it to stand out a bit more on the layout. Lastly, the distressed circle element was adhered to the middle of the layout. To complete this project, I added photos, a title, journaling, and embellishing.

I absolutely LOVE how this design came out! The monochromatic color of the circular element coupled with the high impact texture from the distress strips adds a subtle bit of texture and interest to this project. I highly encourage you to give this simple and quick technique a try!

Revisiting Project Life – Because Memory Planning Is NOT My Jam!

So, a few months ago during one of my YouTube Livestream sessions, I share that I was attempting to try memory planning, which is essentially scrapbooking in a planner. I was intrigued by this format of storytelling, mainly because I wanted to find an easier way to document my everyday stories.

Armed with tons of ideas and creative inspiration, I created two spreads in my memory planner. But, after making those two pages, I quickly realized: MEMORY PLANNING IS NOT MY JAM!

What I discovered is that I need more space for documenting my stories and I really enjoy the Project Life format of pocket pages and simple embellishing. So, I ditched my memory planner and decided to use a 9×12 inch pocket format instead.

In the past, I’ve used a 12×12 inch format for my Project Life spreads. I have found this size to be too big for my everyday scrapbooking. However, I also found that the 6×8 inch format is too small. After making a few 9×12 inch pocket layouts, I am happy to report that I have found Project Life peace!

I also decided to adopt a very flexible approach to documenting my everyday stories. First, I am not putting pressure on myself to do weekly spreads. If I feel like documenting my weekly activities, I will make a page. If not, then I won’t…it’s that simple.

Second, I want my Project Life pages to be simple – photos, words, and a few embellishments. My focus is to get my stories told…period. In my opinion, scrapbooking should not be stressful. It’s okay to adopt processes that make storytelling easy, simple, but most of all…FUN!

NEW Scrapbook Process Video – Let’s Make a Layout! Cheers Year 41!

Happy Friday! Let’s kickoff the weekend with a fun scrapbook process video, now available on the Victoria Marie YouTube Channel!

Today, I am making my annual birthday layout called Cheers! Year 41, using goodies from the January 2022 Hip Kit Club Scrapbook Kit and Embellishment Kit. This 12 x 12 inch layout features a photo collage, simple embellishing, and a bit of hand stitching.

Every year, I create a scrapbook page to celebrate my birthday. In March of this year, I celebrated my 41st trip around the sun! I love celebrating my birthday and documenting how much I have changed, my current interests, and my hopes for the future.

To see this layout come together, check out the following process video!

This project was so much fun to make! The photos take center stage while the pattern paper and embellishments complete the overlook of this design.

This layout features a layered photo collage. Each photo was resized to 3×3 inches and printed with a white border. TIP: Reducing the size of your photos makes it easier to create a single page multi-photo layout.

To flank the photos, I created small clusters of layered embellishments that feature floral die cuts, wood veneer elements, and tiny chipboard flowers. The title was created using a combination of a word die cut (Cheers!) and chipboard letters from the January 2022 Hip Kit Club Kit. I love coordinating die cuts with letter stickers to create unique title designs!

This layout also features hand stitching! I paired two colors of DMC embroidery floss (#165 and #162) to create a layered stitched look. It’s hard to see the delineation on video and in the photo. But, in-person, this technique offers a really cool effect!

I hope you are inspired to create a layout to celebrate a special occasion in your life! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Happy National (International) Scrapbook Day! Let’s Make a Layout!

Happy National (International) Scrapbook Day! I hope you are taking a little time this weekend to relax and to enjoy our amazing storytelling hobby! If you are looking for a bit of creative inspiration, check out my latest scrapbook process video, now available on the Victoria Marie YouTube Channel!

In this video, I am documenting my second year on the Scrapbook and Cards Today Magazine Design Team. I love scrapbooking about my creative adventures and my opportunities to work as a professional designer in this industry. Designing for Scrapbook and Cards Today has been a dream and I’m so proud to work with some of the best designers in the industry. For this project, I used items from the Paige Evans Wonders Collection and the Hip Kit Club March 2021 Embellishment Kit, along with an electronic cut file by Paige Evans called Create (available products listed below). I wanted to make a clean, bright, and whimsical layout with layered floral clusters and a delicate title.

I used my Cricut Explore Air 2 to cut the Create electronic cut file out of American Crafts White Textured Cardstock. The letters were shaded with Distress Oxide Ink by Tim Holtz and popped up on foam squares for added dimension.

Clusters of die cut florals and accents create a frame around the 5×5 inch photo. I love how the vellum butterflies appear as though they are floating around the layout!

NEW! Scrapbook Process Video: Daily Burn 365 (I Messed Up the Title!)

Today, I’m sharing a brand new scrapbook layout called Daily Burn 365 using the Paige Evans Wonders Collection by American Crafts. To be honest, this layout took me forever and a day to complete! I blame my talent for overthinking the design process and seeking perfection. Is it my favorite layout? Nope. But, it is done and that’s all that matters!

Check it out!

Since 2016, I have subscribed to an online fitness program called Daily Burn 365. As the name suggests, subscribers can stream a new workout daily (365) that can be completed at anytime. There are a variety of workouts available to include cardio, yoga, and strength training.

Over the past year, I have decided to do the Daily Burn workouts at least 5-6 days a week as a way of managing my anxiety; a little something I discovered in 2020 (I’m not sure why, hmmm….😀).

I absolutely love this program because all of the workouts are under 30 minutes and they are designed for all skill levels. So, I decided to create a layout to document my fitness journey and how this program has helped me to stay active, right from comfort of my own home.

Now, you may have noticed something…the title on the layout says Daily Burn 356, not Daily Burn 365. Well, I flubbed and messed up the title! And I didn’t notice my error until AFTER I finished filming the process video for this layout.

Good grief!

I guess this layout will say 356 forever because I’m too lazy to change it! LOL!

I could use Un-Do Adhesive Remover to fix the title. But…I think the error gives this layout a little charm, don’t you think? 😀

Be sure to visit the Victoria Marie YouTube Channel to see this layout come together. Also, if you are a Victoria Marie Patron, you get exclusive access to the Daily Burn 365 Bonus Video, now available on the Victoria Marie Patreon site. In this video, I deep dive into the creative process behind this project.
