Weekend Fun Challenge – Going in Circles

Every week on the Victoria Marie FB Group I host two challenges: a Wednesday Hump Day Challenge and a Weekend Fun Challenge.

“Hi Mini Me!” by Victoria Marie

For the Weekend Fun Challenge, the group created layouts using circles as a focal point.

Fun, right?

I have such a hard time using shapes on my layouts. So I pulled out my Silhouette Cameo and found this circle die cut. My thought was to back the die cut circles with various pattern papers then embellish with wood veneers, chip board, stamping, and enamel dots. The result? Amazing!!!!

The photo I used is of me and my little  Corinne. It is uncanny how much we look alike! Hence the title “Hi Mini Me”! I took this picture on Mother’s Day this year and really wanted to scrap it for our family album. I adore my little girl and I love to capture these fun little moments. She won’t be little for too long.

Sigh and tear. 😦

I used the April I Lived Scraptastic Kit and exclusive stamps.

  • Papers – Scraptastic Exclusive pattern paper, Life Documented by Simple Stories, and Playful by Authentique
  • Marquee Font Letters by Thickers
  • From my stash – clips, cork embellishments, wood veneers
  • Twine by American Crafts
  • Enamel Dots by Simple Stories Snap Collection
  • Ink – Stampin’ Up Night of Navy, More Mustard, and Riding Hood Red

This was probably one of the best layouts I made this weekend! Check out my process video on the Victoria Marie YouTube Channel!

And don’t be afraid to use shapes on your next layout!!!

Happy scrappin!

Pocket Layout Share – Trip to Ikea

I love Ikea!!!! I remember when Ikea came to my town…it was a big deal! Not like my town has a shortage of big box stores! Ha!

IMG_0364_2

We are currently getting ready to move in a couple of weeks and are in need of future…like an entire household full of furniture! We made the stupid mistake of getting rid of all of our furniture when we moved in with my mom a year ago. We are saving to buy a house and had the brilliant idea of buying all new furniture when that time came.

Big mistake!!!

IMG_0366_2  IMG_0369

So a couple of weekends ago we visited Ikea to price out furniture and other necessities. This sounds particularly routine but I must say, this was one of the BEST Saturdays I’ve had in a really long time. I shared on my YouTube channel through a process video called “Welcome Bree” that my spouse came out as transgender in June 2014. As one can imagine, there has been several months of adjusting to our “new normal” – mostly positive with regard to our relationship. But it took me several months to start feeling comfortable enough to go out in public and not feel guarded about how my family looks. In fact, most people don’t notice (Bree passes most of the time), while others may stare, a few make snide remarks.

I also had a hard time scrapbooking this change in our family dynamic. Documenting my family life is what I enjoying doing the most.

But what was particularly enjoyable about this day is that it felt like any other day when we are out and about, shopping, enjoying brunch, and having a good time.

And that felt good!

Bree and I joked in our normal fashion. Our little girl be-bopped along without a care in the world. I told myself that it is okay to feel proud of my family. Life goes on, the world goes on…I need to remember to live my life and love the one I with. I simply adore my family!

So, for this layout I used the This Life Noted Kit from the Scraptastic Kit Club. The kit includes 48 – 3×4 cards, about 10 – 4×6 cards, a small stamp set, fonts and embellishments. I wanted to do a bit of embellishing on each card, but keeping the embellishing to a minimum. In my opinion, pocketed scrapbooking is very simple…and I tend to make things more complicated than what they really are by over embellishing (and stressing about it)! I also wanted to use the cute stamp set that came with the kit.

I really enjoyed putting this layout together. I decided through creating this layout that I need to scrapbook more of our day-to-day living. Its fun to look back years later and remember the events and happenings of our lives.

Be sure to check out the process video for this layout on my YouTube channel! Enjoy!

Did you know that Creative Memories was back?

CM logo

So, I was a devoted Creative Memories customer for many, many years and was one of many scrappers who nearly died when CM announced they were closing up shop in 2013. Well, I just heard today from another scrappy friend that they are back. In fact, they’ve been back for about 6 months or so! How did I miss this!!?

Yippee!

Under new ownership, Creative Memories is attempting to regain its previous position in the scrapbooking market. With somewhat limited product offerings (at least for now), CM has made available some of their most popular and signature items along with a few new goodies. It is my understanding that they are going to continue to grow their product line. Yay!!!!

For those who are not familiar, Creative Memories was once the leader in the paper crafting industry, with thousands of CM consultants all over the U.S. Consultants hosted in-home crafting parties and sold products to eager scrapbookers. In my opinion, CM has some of the BEST tools, albums, and paper.

I recommend that you take some time to check them out! Hopefully Creative Memories will be back for good!

Layout Share – “I Am Crazy!”

Yes, it is true. I am a bit on the cray cray side! I love to laugh, poke fun at people, and tell really bad jokes. Of course, my humor is a redeeming quality! And I never shy away from making fun of myself. I can’t take life too seriously, man!

I found these pictures hiding out on my iPhone and decided that a new layout was needed in my All About Me album. If you haven’t done so, I encourage you to start a scrapbook album that features YOU…and only YOU! Just think…who else is going to tell the story of you? All too often scrapbookers hide behind the lens of a camera, too busy capturing little Jimmy’s first poo or Grandma’s hilarious twerking attempts (I have seriously seen this on Facebook or something…hysterical)!

Every now and then we need to snap a few pics of ourselves and talk about how awesome we are! We need to fully recognize that our stories are so important to the fabric of our being. Personally, I love to see how I’ve evolved over the years…a lot smarter, a bit more pudgy, but comfortable in my own skin.

For this layout I used scrappy goodies from the April 2015 I Lived kit from Scraptastic Kit Club. To be honest, I didn’t really like this kit. I am not sure what it was…the colors, the style…not sure. But I decided to give it go anyway, so here it is!
